I eat a mixture like this or very similar to it every single night. I need to remind everyone that this is not a weight loss blog. My goal is healthy eating and lean muscle weight gain. That means that I eat to grow. I eat to feed my muscles. Not everyone could have something like this every night. I work out 5-6 days a week weight training for an hour or so and doing HIIT training 2-3 times a week. I can afford to eat a lot more fat and carbs than other people. Everyone is different in what their body runs off of. I am fortunate that my body likes higher fat amounts.
I eat a snack high in protein and fat before bed because it is necessary to repair and restore my muscles while I sleep. I always wake up hungry, too. You would think that I wouldn’t, but my metabolism is so fast that I literally wake up with my stomach growling sometimes at 3-4 am.
My go-to snack before bed usually is something like this:
3-4 spoonfuls of plain non-fat greek yogurt, 1 spoonful of fat-free cottage cheese, 1/2 scoop of whey protein (my favorite right now is cellucor’s peanut butter marshmallow flavor), and some stevia. I mix this together and add in one of my baked goods. For this particular snack I used one of my protein doughnuts made from this recipe. I also add 1-1/2 tbsp peanut butter (typically I will melt it in the microwave for 30-45 seconds) and 1-2 tbsp of peanut flour butter. I then will add some kashi cereal or something crunchy. I really need some crunch in my last snack to satisfy that craving. I then put it in the freezer to set for 30-60 minutes depending on how I want it.
This is what keeps me sane and the reason I don’t feel the need to have treat meals. I love my peanut butter and protein mixture.
This is one of my go-to Pro-Fro-Yo combinations I decided to post it here because I know it is going to be one I use often!
Cookies and Cream Pro-Fro-Yo!
About 1/3 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt
1 1/2 tbsp small curd fat-free cottage cheese
1/2 packet of stevia
1/2 scoop of Cellucor cookies and cream flavored whey protein
and 1/2 of a chocolate banana protein muffin mixed
Mix the ingredients above in a bowl.
Added in some chocolate peanut flour butter
:2 tbsp peanut flour- protein plus brand from iHerb, 1/2 tbsp peanut butter marshmallow flavored Cellucor whey, 1 packet of stevia, 1/2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder and 2 tbsp water.
Melted 1 tbsp natural creamy peanut butter in the center, broke up the 2nd half of my chocolate banana protein muffin, then topped that with a tablespoon of dark chocolate dreams Peanut Butter & Co, and a couple bits of a Quest Nurtition’s new flavor of Quest bar: Cookies and Cream (which is to die for, by far my favorite flavor yet!)
I froze this for about an hour and a half then took it out and chowed down! I love my guilt-free protein creations!
